Old Man Afraid of His Horses Memorial Park

This event is in honor of Chief Old Man Afraid of His Horses and his granddaughter Nellie Two Bulls, a 81 year old, well-known elder from Pine Ridge Reservation, who passed away on February 18th, 2007 and who has been hosting this event for the last 30 years.

The daughters of Nellie Two Bulls, Melvina Winters, Cheryl Between Lodge and Linda Two Bulls want to keep her mother's memory as well as the rich Lakota heritage alive, and will be the hosts of the Old Man Afraid of His Horses 32nd Annual Pow-wow and Ceremonies.

Memorial Motorcycle Ride

Honoring the trail of Chief Big Foot.
Ft. Yates N.D. to Eagle Butte, S.D
to Wounded Knee

Tuesday, July 25th, 2008
Registration 8:00-10:00 AM.
Opening Ceremony 10:00 AM.
Ride starts at Prairie Knights Casino and Resort located at 7932 Hwy 24, Ft. Yates,
North Dakota.

Wednesday, July 25th, 2008
9:00 AM Opening Ceremony at the Powwow Grounds,
Located in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.

At the Wounded Knee Grave Site
The Ride in 2007 ended with a ceremony at the Wounded Knee Grave Site. Children, who reside at the home, participated.
 
The purpose of the Wounded Knee Memorial Motorcycle Ride is to remember and honor the Lakota People who suffered and died in December of 1890 at Wounded Knee, South Dakota. We feel it is important to educate and raise awareness to all people of the terrible tragedy that happened. By remembering the past and by paying our respects, healing and unity can be achieved.

All proceeds from the Wounded Knee Memorial Motorcycle Ride got to "Children's Village”.
 

Registration fee of $ 20 (cash only)

Ride at your own risk. This ride is drug and alcohol free. Not responsible for injury or theft.

Annual Christmas Gift Drive 2008

Each year, Wakanyeja Tiospaye O'Tipi - Children's Village, Inc. sponsors an annual Christmas gift drive.

Last year 370 children and their families from six Pine Ridge Indian Reservation Communities received gifts.

Some families would not be able to afford gifts, and it is a time of great appreciation for these families.

Christmas Program 2005 in the basement of Children's Village
 


Christmas Program 2006 at the No. 4 Community

105 children received gifts at the No. 4 Community this past December. A meal accompanied this program.
Most of the children in this picture are descendants of Old Man Afraid of His Horses, a great chief of the Oglala Lakota (Sioux).
